👋 Research Assistant – Prototype Development

Full-Time Contract Basis (6 Months)

The SENSE Design Research Lab, University of Moratuwa, Department of Integrated Design, is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Research Assistant to support prototype development activities for ongoing research projects.

This role is ideal for a recent graduate with strong interests in product design, prototyping, fabrication, and experimental development.

Key Responsibilities –

○ Assist in the design and development of physical prototypes

○ Support CAD modelling and design refinements

○ Work with 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and model-making Assist in electronic prototyping (Arduino / sensors / embedded systems), where required

○ Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and iterative improvements

○ Support documentation of design processes, experiments, and prototype evaluations

○ Assist in material sourcing and fabrication coordination

○ Support research publications and dissemination activities

Preferred Qualifications –

○ Background in Product Design / Industrial Design / Engineering / Mechatronics / related field

○ Experience with SolidWorks / CAD software Hands-on skills in prototype fabrication and model making

○ Familiarity with Arduino and basic electronics Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines

○ Strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills

Duration – Initial appointment for 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on project progress.
