We at Vibhawa possess a range of company owned state of the art electrical tester bank (calibrated up to date to ensure the accuracy) capable of providing testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and condition monitoring of the entire spectrum of medium voltage to low voltage systems.

Role Description : Electrical Engineer – Field Testing

This is a full-time on-site role for an Electrical Engineer – Field Testing based in our office in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for conducting field tests on electrical systems (low voltage to medium voltage up to 33kV) – both new and existing systems, analyzing test data, and providing recommendations for improvements / corrections.

Also working with our in-house ETAP power system simulations engineer to work on resolving electricity distribution system related protection issues/tripping issues – starting from gathering field data, assist in modeling/simulation of real world system data and implementing the corrected settings/configurations in protection systems/relays. Also verifying the simulated model operation against the actual operation.

The day to day work will involve the following areas but not limited to,

  • Medium voltage system electrical testing including panels, transformers, cables etc
  • Protection system testing using secondary injection
  • Carrying out Electrical Installation Condition report/inspection as per BS7671
    Infrared Thermography of electrical systems
  • Condition monitoring of earthing systems/lightning protection system of high rise buildings
  • Field inspection & root cause analysis of abnormal conditions like nuisance tripping, over heating etc
  • Carrying out incident investigations of electrical system related incidents

This role is a 60-80% field work based and 40-20% office/desk based job.

What you should have?

  • Bachelors degree specialized in Electrical Engineering or related field (Masters would be a plus point)
  • In depth understanding of basic electrical principles is a must
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Eye to the detail and can do attitude
  • Willing to work in the field both locally & overseas and travel as required
