Immediate Recruitment for Fully Funded PhD and Two MSc Positions (2025 – 2028) at University of Moratuwa

Project: Travel Decision Support System to Appraise the Climate Impact on Sri Lankan Tourism (TraDSS).

🌍 About TraDSS
we will build:

  • A real-time IoT sensor network measuring bioclimatic variables at designations of critical importance.
  • High-resolution climate–tourism analytics using GIS, machine learning & system-dynamics models.
  • A web/mobile decision-support platform (TraDSS) delivering predictive insights for tourists, operators and policymakers.

🎓 1 PhD Candidate
Focus: advanced data fusion & predictive modelling for climate–tourism resilience.
Stipend: [typical rates applicable for public university RAs].

Essential:
— First-class BSc/BEng (or equivalent) in Spatial/Environmental/Computer Science, Civil/Environmental Eng., Data Science, or similar.
— Strong programming (Python/R) & GIS/remote-sensing skills.
— Passion for interdisciplinary research & publications.

Key responsibilities:
— Design multi-modal data-fusion algorithms (IoT + satellite + social data).
— Lead ML model development (CNN/RNN) for climate risk forecasting.
— Publish journal papers & present at international conferences.

Mentor junior researchers; contribute to TraDSS.
🎓 2 × MSc (by Research) Candidates
MSc 1 – GIS & Field Surveys
Build the sensor network, run field campaigns, generate GIS risk maps.

MSc 2 – Tourism Behaviour & Decision Analysis
Analyse survey data, run MICMAC/Fuzzy-AHP & Vensim models, craft policy briefs.
Stipend: [typical rates applicable for public university RAs].

Essential for both:

An Honours bachelor’s in relevant field (Geography, Tourism, Economics, Env. Management, Engineering, Data Science).
Working knowledge of either GIS/remote sensing or quantitative social-science methods.
Excellent communication & teamwork.
